Sleeping with wet hair has long been associated with tales of tangles and colds, but it seems there’s more to the story. Contrary to popular belief, going to bed with slightly damp hair can actually result in gorgeous morning locks. According to experts Divya Sabanayagam and Anjali Merchant from DryFix, the key is in the preparation.
Sabanayagam advises that your hair should only be slightly damp, not completely wet, before hitting the sheets. Excessive moisture can harm your hair follicles and lead to breakage. Additionally, using a silk pillowcase can work wonders as it reduces friction on your strands, preventing knots and breakage.
Another misconception they aim to dispel is the link between wet hair and catching a cold. Viruses cause colds, not wet hair. However, sleeping on a fungal-infested pillowcase could lead to a fungal infection. The duo recommends changing pillowcases weekly for hygiene.
When prepping your dampened locks for bedtime, Merchant suggests applying a generous amount of hair serum to deter tangles. Depending on your desired look the next day, twist your hair into curls or keep it straight before heading to bed. Using nourishing products like curl cream helps maintain curls and reduce frizz.
To combat frizz-prone hair, Sabanayagam recommends incorporating leave-in conditioner into your routine and using silk accessories like scrunchies for protection against friction-induced frizz. Remember to avoid brushing your hair post-sleep as it can worsen frizz.
So next time you hesitate about sleeping with wet hair, remember these tips from DryFix for waking up with fabulous, manageable locks every morning.
