As a hair or beauty specialist, you play an integral role in your clients’ daily lives. Your interactions enable you to discern their specific hair needs based on various aspects like color, length, texture, and density. You also learn about hair care practices such as washing frequency, styling habits, and product preferences. More importantly, getting to know your client on a personal level reveals much about their passion, interests, family life, etc. This abundance of information plays a pivotal role in deciding the products, tools, and services you recommend to suit individual clients’ needs.

However, have you ever pondered what actually influences your clients’ purchasing decisions? It’s crucial as a professional to understand their mindset when choosing hair care items as it significantly aids in providing better service recommendations.

A recent poll by YouGov shed light on some personal factors that shape U.S. consumers’ haircare choices. The findings revealed that for many Americans, hair care is more than merely a routine task.

Nearly half (45%) of U.S. adults consistently use the same shampoo brand showing significant customer loyalty with men being slightly more brand-loyal (48%) than women(43%). As for conditioners, the numbers drop somewhat lower at 34%, again with women leading at 37% over men’s 31%.

If you’re aware of your client’s brand loyalty, you can significantly enhance the way you recommend services and products within those particular brands or suggest comparable alternatives suiting current usage patterns. If you’re loyal to a particular brand yourself, don’t hesitate sharing why!

Scent emerged as the second most important factor especially among women–27% consider it key for shampoos compared to just16% of men. Discovering what fragrances your clients prefer could help recommend products matching their preferred scent-profile.

A considerable percentage (16%) admitted that they value trust in a hairdresser when deciding what shampoo to purchase – this percentage is higher among women (19%) – a trend also reflected in conditioner purchases. Sharing your input on the most effective products and tools for maintaining their hair’s health and style between salon appointments, could increase customer trust in your expertise.

Affordability is another aspect with 13% of consumers opting for cheaper shampoo and 10% for conditioner equally among both genders. As a hair professional, you could propose to your clients the advantages of shopping directly through you if retail purchasing seems too high-priced. This strategy could not only increase your income but also reassure that your clients use high-quality products to maintain that stunning final look achieved at the salon or barber shop.

Educating clients regarding the benefits of shopping with you either at your physical location like Hair Salon, Nail Salon, or Day Spa else via an online store becomes vital. Offering discounts for first-time purchases or clients who refer others to you might incentivize them to shop directly from you.

Dove appeared as the leading choice among customers with a score of 36.4 primarily selected by men while retaining strong popularity amongst women too. Other top-rated brands included Pantene, Head & Shoulders, TRESemmé, and Herbal Essences. If customers are selecting major retail brands, offering professional alternatives that outperform these options may meet their requirements better.

Whether it relates to product purchase decisions in a Barber Shop, skincare routines in a Med Spa or Skin Spa or even behavioral patterns at a Fitness center – being cognizant of factor influencing those decisions helps provide customized solutions suiting individual needs thereby ensuring customer satisfaction & loyalty.
